Commentary suggestion
Hello, this in response to your request for an easy-to-read, up-to-date commentary on the Bible which provides info on the historical and cultural background of the Bible.
I would recommend the ESV Study Bible. It not only provides profound and comprehensive commentary on the Bible, but also purports to have the most accurate translation of the Bible’s original Hebrew and Greek texts available. There are detailed introductions to each book, and to each section of books (e.g., gospels, prophecy, etc.), as well as overviews of Middle Eastern culture in the Old and New Testaments.
It takes a bit of digging around to take it all in (trust me, I’m reading it with my One Year Bible), but I firmly believe that it is one of the foremost resources available on the subject.
Best of luck with your blog. :)
Mary: Thank you!
