Suggest verses to cover

Hello there!

I just discovered your blog yesterday, and I love it!

I have here some verses that I personally would like to see screen capped, some having further suggestions on things related to A:TLA to pull from.

Proverbs 24:5 (One of Sokka’s plans; something from the Library episode)

Matthew 5:44 (Zuko and Aang, possibly from the Blue Spirit)

2 Timothy 1:7 (Something with Katara)

Proverbs 4:1 (Sokka and Hakoda, that’s a good one)

Matthew 6:24 (Perhaps when Zuko was stealing from people?)

Also, how about a series or a composite post on the fruits of the spirit?

BTW, what translation of the Bible do you use?

These are good ideas. Also I use different translations depending on what I find first via google, lol.

This is an enormous chain and I’m sorry, but I need to say this:

The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by god as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for Original Sin.

According to Christian theology, when Jesus came from Heaven, it was for the express purpose of sacrificing himself on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image. That is why he said “it is finished” when he died on the cross. That is why Christians don’t have to circumcise their sons (god’s covenant with Jacob), that is why they don’t have to perform animal sacrifice, or grow out their forelocks, or follow any of the other laws of Leviticus.

When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your god and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you.

So maybe actually read the thing before you start quoting it, because the implications of your actions go a lot deeper than you think.

/An atheist who understands Christian theology better than Bible-thumpers do.

Why is this such a difficult concept for people to understand… I really don’t get it.

Anonymous asked: From the Zen perspective, scriptures are nothing but scraps of paper for wiping up filth.” (Hisamatsu)

Well, I’m not a Zen Buddhist. However, your quote does remind me of the Bible verse where the law (legalism) leads to death, but Jesus leads to eternal life.

Anonymous asked: Any one can pull random Christian quotes from anything but do you have any Buddhist quotes/Hindu quotes/Zen or Shinto available for this? (it's more respectful to the culture that Avatar is depicting) Also: please correctly credit the fanart that you use, or don't use it at all).

No. There’s blogs like atla-annotated for that. Also, this is specifically a Christian blog meant to point out *themes* in the shows. Sorry.

You are right, and when I can get on a computer next, I will go back and credit them.

Yes, I’m still alive.

No, I haven’t abandoned this blog. My iPod is being fixed. When I get it back I will post anew/add to the queue. :)
